Thuja Capital exits NightBalance to Philips
8 May, 2018, Utrecht, The Netherlands – Thuja Capital announced it has sold its shareholding in NightBalance B.V. (The Hague, Netherlands) to Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA).
Philips has agreed to acquire all outstanding shares of NightBalance, a digital health scale-up company that has developed an innovative, easy to use device to treat positional obstructive sleep apnea and positional snoring.
Thuja Capital led the first venture capital investment in NightBalance in 2011 and has helped to build the company through two additional financing rounds to today’s acquisition exit. The investor support and associated funding enabled NightBalance to grow from its origin’s as an early stage YES!Delft project to an international commercially active company.
Founded in 2009 with the ambition to improve the lives of positional apnea patients worldwide, NightBalance offers a unique, patient friendly solution to treat positional obstructive sleep apnea and positional snoring. NightBalance has developed the Sleep Position Trainer (SPT), a wearable device designed to help patients suffering from positional sleep apnea to avoid apnea episodes during sleep. The SPT is CE-marked and is marketed in select countries in Europe. The Dutch National Health Care Institute (ZIN) has recently issued a positive recommendation to reimburse the SPT within the national basic mandatory insurance package available to the residents of the Netherlands.
