Date: 28/05/2013

28 May 2013, Utrecht, The Netherlands –  Thuja Capital announces today that it has invested in medical technology company Mellon Medical B.V., a newly incorporated company specialized in the development of innovative surgical suturing devices. The investment will enable the company to develop, certify and commercialize its first suturing device. Thuja Capital Healthcare Seed Fund B.V. was the lead investor, with Innovatie- & Investeringsfonds Gelderland en het Life Sciences & Health Fund as co-investors.

Mellon Medical holds a patent application related to an innovative mechanism which enables single-handed surgical suturing. This single-patient use device can be applied to a range of surgical applications, such as tubular and layered closures.  By enabling single handed suturing, the company expects suturing to become faster and more accurate due to improved control and vision, which in turn is expected to meaningfully contribute to higher quality and more affordable healthcare.
